Young Fine Gael is proud to launch our national campaign “Cheaper Pints and Longer Nights” to help stimulate business and reduce the cost of going out. We are calling on the government to introduce a twelve-month suspension of VAT and excise duty on the sale of alcohol and soft drinks in pubs and restaurants in order to boost the sector after the devastation of Covid-19.
We are also calling on the government to overhaul Ireland’s archaic licensing laws and enable bars and nightclubs to stay open for longer, finally bringing us into line with European norms.
Speaking on the issue, YFG President Art O’Mahony said, “This campaign is about putting money back into people’s pockets, supporting businesses and trusting citizens, in particular, students, to spend their money as they wish.
It will encourage customers to support their local pubs and restaurants while they recover from the pandemic, while also helping Ireland to cultivate a night-time economy as nightclubs prepare to open after eighteen months.”
