Motions passed at Garret FitzGerald Summer School 2012

 Below are the listed of motions which were passed by members at our Garret FitzGerald Summer School in Killarney.

Motions

1. YFG believes that the Universities Act 1997 should be amended so that membership of a Student Union or the USI is not mandatory for third-level students.
2. This Summer School believes that there should be legislation formulated and enacted to incorporate prenuptial agreements in this country.
3. YFG calls on the government to legislate against holding any future elections or referenda in the middle of the working week.
4. YFG proposes to use the European Investment Bank to fund next generation networks and high tech Irish companies rather than large scale capital projects to reduce unemployment.
5. YFG proposes that a condition of a non-governmental organisation receiving exchequer funding must be that they disclose the remuneration packages of their CEO and senior management.
6. This Summer School calls for the legalisation of marijuana, to be used strictly for medical purposes to aid the suffering of terminally or critically ill patients.
7. YFG believes that convicted murderers should serve a minimum of 25 years of their mandatory life sentence before being considered for parole or any form of early release in all circumstances, as has been FG policy for a number of years but has never been implemented.
8. YFG calls on the government to make it compulsory for every teacher to correct a certain amount of exam papers during the summer, as part of their contract with no additional remuneration.
9. YFG calls for the introduction of a Graduate taxation system, as a means to fund Ireland's ailing third level sector, as soon as is feasible and that any interim measures provide all necessary supports for students, reflecting their means, to continue in full time education.
